Proposed event programme for 2008.
Turnberry Golf Tournament.
The Westin Turnberry Resort ;
The Culzean Autoclassica will attract many visitors from all corners of the world and an important factor to the success of the event will be our ability to accommodate those visitors.
It was not by accident we chose Culzean Castle for our world class event and the fact that the Five Star Westin Turnberry Resort was close by. Complimented by Ayrshire's natural beauty and coastling together with the proximity of Prestwick International Airport and Ayr with all it's local facilities, we have the perfect cocktail.
An integral part of our plans for the Autoclassica will be the introduction of a Golf Tournament to be held on the Thursday prior to the event. It will provide an added attraction particularly for our Corporate participants with guests also having the opportunity to stay in the magnificent hotel lodges. We hope to announce soon, details of Autoclassica entrant packages including accommodation at The Westin Turnberry Hotel and the option to compete in the golf tournament.
The Golf Tournament ;
Played over one of Turnberry's championship courses and open exclusively to Culzean Autoclassica invited entrants. Subject to an entry fee, included in the Westin Turnberry accommodation packages, players must possess a recognised Golf handicap. Appropriate prizes will be presented to the winners.
Full details and the exact format to be announced.
Turnberry Motor Racing Heritage.
Turnberry Nostalgic Test Day.
We have been researching the history of motorsport at Turnberry and are excited at the prospect of featuring part of British and in particular Scotland's racing heritage as an integral part of future Culzean Autoclassica's. In the early 50's situated just a few minutes from Culzean Castle's grounds Turnberry's little ex wartime airfield was adapted to make a 1.76 mile racing circuit. A number of national race meetings held there featuring most of Britain's top drivers at the time including Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Reg Parnell and Ken Wharton. Legendary racing cars such as the V16 BRM's, the Thinwall Special, predecessor to the Vanwall, Connaughts, Cooper Bristols, Frazer Nashes Le Mans Replicas battled it out with the Ferraris of the time. Scotland's own famous Ecurie Ecosse team entered Coopers driven by Ninian Sanderson and Ron Flockart.
In partnership with the Westin Turnberry, current owners of the airfield we plan to revive a part of the old track that still remains and to present a nostalgic return of motorsport sprint demo's to Turnberry.
The following activities are being given consideration.
1 Straight line demonstration runs by race cars including hopefully some of the famous cars from the 50's Turnberry race meetings.
2 Timed straight line short sprint.
3 Sprint adopting chicanes and end loop with combined start / finish line.
4 Test and demonstrating the latest manufacturers models.
We are seeking a major sponsor for the Autoclassica Nostalgic Test /Sprint Day's which will be planned to coincide with the events at Culzean, and our aim for the future is for Visitors to be able to take a shuttle coach from the castle to the circuit. Special Weekend Entry Passes including access to the Test Day would be made available.
